American Stewart Cink, 23 years younger than his compatriot Tom Watson (59 years), he dashed off in what would be the incredible story of the 138 British Open, played by veteran golfer and was not happy with the final first victory at Turnberry (Scotland).

Watson’s five Open titles (the last 26 years) and eight “Great”, was shot to realize his great dream of a final “putt for par on the 18th hole in two and a half meters. Watson did not embocadas, and went straight to find the root in a tiebreaker against the sturdy suicide Cink, both tied with two under par after four rounds of constant fighting on the coast Scots.

The seventh tiebreaker, as always with four holes of the last 15 years the tournament was the most moving, and sadder. Turnberry supported Watson. Moreover, supporting the golf hero embodied in a second youth, seeking to force the time to a brutal setback. “I could have won if he had gotten the last ball of my journey. The truth is that it is a disappointment to lose like that, but this is not a funeral,” said the veteran American golfer.

Cink’s strength, an excellent player and thirty-third U.S. tour of the world, demolished the castle of illusions that had built the veteran American golfer since last Thursday-based effort, wisdom, strategy and faith. Watson acknowledged that a state is not comparable to when he played his first Open, back in the 70s. “My legs did not give more of themselves, and in the pits late Cink had it really easy,” said Watson, who broke into tears when he saw the glory beyond.

Cink was able to win the first Grand Slam tournament of his career and will continue to Julius Boros in the history books as the oldest golfer to win a Grande (48 years). Watson, 59, came very close to ousting Boros and becoming the man with more titles on the British Open.

The gesture was diluted in a tie with Cink dominated discussion. There was no history. Cink was the protagonist in a final frustrated the collective dream of seeing again Watson, 32 years later and at Turnberry, where he successfully exited the famous “Duel in the sun” in front of Jack Nicklaus, to lift the famous Silver Mug the world of sport. “I grew up watching on television and Watson dreamed of one day follow in his footsteps,” the final winner. “I never expected to be playing against him. It was an awesome experience in one of my favorite tournaments such as this spectacular tournament,” he concluded.
